Week 23 #5.

From his afternoon nap Pancake woke

fearing Harley, while sleeping, had croaked.

So he tickled her paws

with his whiskers and claws

‘til she glared and hissed: cut the pokes, bloke!

Day 347. Pancake vs. Sunlight.

Day 347. Pancake vs. Sunlight.

Day 240. Summertime morning: Pancake vs. the oscillating fan & the IKEA mouse.
Pancake Trivia: A while back, I mentioned to Mr. Mister Cake’s that Pancake was really, er, filling out and that he must be getting close to 20 lbs. While my better half didn’t initially believe me, after consulting the scales, we discovered that we are actually the proud owners of 22 lbs of orange tabby. Expletives ensued.

Day 234: Daily photo failure.
Chad (Camera Simplex / My Leica Year) had a great post a while back about trying different types of cameras and how his doing so led him to discover that a rangefinder was the right camera for him. Along those lines, even if another style or format ultimately isn’t ‘the one’ for you, it’s still an awful lot of fun to try out different types of cameras, and doing so can provide insights into the care and feeding of whichever camera you do end up gravitating to. Thus, while I pretty much have zero view camera aptitude (as evidenced by the photo above, which would’ve been a fail even without my film going gooey; honestly, the damaged film might actually improve it somewhat), I still really enjoy -and learn a lot from- an evening with the Graflex every now and then.
And speaking of learning, tonight I learned (among other things) that if your Fuji instant film was already well past its use-by date when you bought it six months ago off eBay, maybe it’s not the best idea to forget about it in the back seat of your car on a really hot day.
Oops.

Day 220. Pet Week, Day 2. The A/C went out last night. This is how the cats tried to stay cool while we waited for the repairperson. Maybe their furry little bellies act as heat sinks?
By the way, the adorable vampire cat in the upper right corner is still available for adoption. While we initially thought she was FIV+, a fancier PCR-based test revealed that she doesn’t actually have the virus (she just has the antibodies; it’s likely she was vaccinated for FIV), so she’s totally healthy and ready for a good home (other than ours!) in the Austin, TX area. Please help me not be any more of a crazy cat lady than I already am!

Day 87. J’Accuse!
Pancake, resentful that my succumbing to a cold and contemporaneous failure to appropriately schedule film pick-up from the lab kept him off tumblr for nearly a week.
