for cat naps
Day 220. Pet Week, Day 2. The A/C went out last night. This is how the cats tried to stay cool while we waited for the repairperson. Maybe their furry little bellies act as heat sinks?
By the way, the adorable vampire cat in the upper right corner is still available for adoption. While we initially thought she was FIV+, a fancier PCR-based test revealed that she doesn’t actually have the virus (she just has the antibodies; it’s likely she was vaccinated for FIV), so she’s totally healthy and ready for a good home (other than ours!) in the Austin, TX area. Please help me not be
any more of a crazy cat lady than I already am!
Day 153. Take my cat… please!
This is a bit of a departure from the normal photo post, but I’m getting a little desperate. Ms. October is a playful, affectionate, and ultra-sweet short-haired black cat looking for a good home indoors, without other cats, where she can become the ultimate lap cat. She showed up in our backyard last October and, after some trouble with the local wildlife, ended up recuperating in our guest room about a month ago. While she’s a sweetheart, we’re already overrun with cats, and all parties are ready for her to move out of the guest room. October is FIV+, but our vet (and the Internet) indicated that in the right situation (i.e., indoor-only, only cat), she’s very likely to have a perfectly normal lifespan (assuming she even has FIV; cruelly, the test could also have been positive due to her having been vaccinated for FIV). If you’re in central Texas and are potentially interested in adopting October, please email me.
UPDATE: A PCR-based FIV test came back negative, so October is very, very likely not FIV+. As such, she’d be happy in a house with or without other cats.
A true Austin snow day (with honest-to-goodness snow as opposed to ice) isn’t quite up there with seeing Elvis and Bigfoot riding around on unicorns and juggling hens’ teeth, but it’s pretty close. Anyway, it snowed, and I went a little crazy. For those who are interested in that sort of thing, the Diana photos (first and last) are on Fuji Pro 400H; all the others are on Kodak Portra 160NC.
